cutting edge.

you just can’t trust anyone to cut your hair. if you’re like me you’ve had one too many run-ins with bad stylists claiming to give you the best cut of your life, only to make you throw your hair back in a ponytail {or if you’re like me: a top knot} for the next six weeks. oh and there’s the whole being skeptical of anyone coming near your tresses with a sharp object.

lucky for us, there are a few real experts out there. and i just happen to know where you can find two.

if you’re in the big apple, chances are you already know about the hair gods at patrick melville salon. considered pioneers in the cut and color categories, the co-founders/owners – patrick melville and rick wellman – boast celebrity clientele like halle berry, ashley judd, brooke shields and mariska hargitay. this dynamic duo {patrick for styling and rick for color} were named in new york magazine’s “best of 2012″ and are touted for giving clients exactly what they want {not what they think you want}. and if you’re a hipster or just want to try one of the newest hair trends – they offer color chalking, braid styling {hello, katniss braid!} and invisi-tab extensions.

think of the salon as yet another must-do in the city. red velvet cheesecake at magnolia bakery, shopping at saks fifth avenue in rockefeller center, brows at sania’s brow bar, a deep tissue massage at the mandarin oriental, lunch at abc kitchen, and a haircut/color at the patrick melville salon.

now while i haven’t personally experienced the patrick melville salon, i may just skip my next few hair appointments for my next new york trip.
