top six – week of july 4.

there comes a time in every girl’s life when a compromise must be made. for instance, electing to leave that pair of madewell “high-waist wide-legger” jeans on the rack and opting to buy groceries for the week. exiting out of your shopping cart on gilt groupe prior to confirming your order and choosing to pay your rent on time. saving money for retirement instead of island hopping in the caribbean. skipping dessert at your favorite gelato shoppe and donating to your local animal rescue. making your significant other happy by participating in one of their favorite, albeit your least favorite, activities.

in honor of  my recent compromise to camp {see: “making your significant other happy by participating in one of their favorite activities”} i feel compelled to share how i packed my very own camping bag. think of it as a life preserver. something that keeps you safe and from going insane.

1. spray toner. if there’s one thing i’ve learned, spray a toner. and liberally. over your makeup. over fresh skin. at home. in the woods. just do it a lot. i like super by dr. nicholas perricone “super detox elixir with watercress”, it re-balances and detoxifies skin while minimizing pores.

2. tinted moisturizer. don’t force yourself to go au naturel, but fake it with a tinted moisturizer instead. urban decay’s “urban defense” with spf 20 is the perfect solution for looking flawless, and legitimate in any setting.

3. headband. let’s be honest. with a lack of water and electrical outlets {but all the natural lighting one could desire}, your hair might get a little out of control. throw it up and forget about it with goody’s stayput “slide-proof hold headwrap”. good for all hair lengths and textures.

4. eye mask. when you’re outdoors, there’s no way of modifying mother nature’s schedule. since you’re sans blackout curtains and sheets to pull over your head, you must invest in an eye mask. earth therapeutics’ “soft and smooth shut eye sleep mask” will ensure you achieve those uber-necessary eight hours of snoozing.

5. comfy pants. you know there’s nothing worse than being uncomfortable. in times like this, opt for comfortable pants. athleta’s “organic cotton chela capri” covers all bases. a great length to transition from warm days to cool nights. made of soft cotton to keep your spirits high. and a stretchy waistband to forgive you for too many s’mores.

6. reading material. avoid boredom by downloading a new book {i suggest the hunger games} to your barnes and noble “nook color”. while you may not be engrossed in your natural surroundings, you can escape to a faraway place with just the touch of a button.

did i forget anything? oh wait, a tent…
